Demolition works have now commenced on the existing nightclub which will be replaced with a 35 storey student accommodation tower block containing 573 beds for Unite Students. The ground floor will be used for commercial space The development is approximately 100m south east of Manchester Oxford Road railway station and close to existing student accommodation. The site is close to a number of existing businesses and to campuses of both the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University.
The £50m project is due to complete in the summer of 2020. Collaton Safety were appointed to act as Principal Designer and to carry out monthly Health and Safety site inspections.
